Jade's Legacy - The Fight Goes On

29 May 2012

As we approach Cervical Screening Awareness Week, this Sky Living documentary can be seen on our screens on 7th June.  Produced by Smoking Pony Productions with the help of The Eve Appeal, Macmillan and Jo's Trust, the documentary features one of the charity's most active supporters and charts the battles of women at various stages of cervical cancer.

The documentary, which will air in June, examines the disease which claimed reality star Jade Goody's life in 2009, charting the battles of women at various stages of cervical cancer.

Sky Living looks at how three years after Jade's death many women are once again foregoing life-saving tests.

In the wake of Jade's death, research showed a huge uptake in UK women undergoing screenings which increased by almost 400,000. But these figures are now on the decline and are close to the levels before Jade's diagnosis; the new Sky Living show aims to raise awareness of the issue once again

Robert Marsh, CEO of The Eve Appeal says, "We are delighted to have been given this opportunity of working with the production team to help to take this important message to such a large audience.  Cervical cancer is a largely preventable disease but we need to make more women aware of the risks they take by not attending screening.  The Smoking Pony team were fantastic to work with and I know all their hard work will raise awareness and ultimately save women's lives."

Jane Johnson, director of Sky Living said, "It is saddening to see that the cervical cancer statistics have gone up again since Jade's death. After breast cancer, it's the second most common cancer in women aged 35 and under. We hope this moving documentary will continue Jade's legacy and help raise awareness once again of this cruel disease."
