All about the Research

The Eve Appeal’s current focus is to raise funds for one of the world’s largest and most successful ovarian cancer research programmes.

Led by Professor Ian Jacobs, the UK’s leading gynaecological oncologist (and with a team of over 65 medical and scientific staff) the programme is well on the way to creating the tools and methods which we are optimistic will lead to a 50% reduction in deaths from ovarian cancer, as well as impacting significantly on other gynaecological cancers.

Caring for women is at the heart of what we do. Our programme covers a broad spectrum if research, from basic science through to managing symptoms, looking at all angles to ensure that women are given a better chance of beating this deadly illness.

We are pioneering better ways of predicting which women will develop ovarian cancer, investigating and testing better methods of detecting it at an earlier and more treatable stage, discovering more effective treatments and working with doctors to improve the care of women with cancer.

This is a well-established programme of international importance. Its impact is already being felt not only on the lives of individual women but across the global cancer research community.

Professor Ian Jacobs, Director of Research

"Our skilled research team share a determination to make a difference for the women who are unfortunate enough to develop gynaecological cancer. There are extraordinary opportunities available, through a combination of new insights into the underlying mechanisms responsible for these cancers and the availability of powerful new technology to study them. Support of The Eve Appeal is essential if we are to turn these opportunities into a reality which can change the lives of many thousands of women and their families."
